First established in 1936, Cheesmur has been based in Lewes, East Sussex and trading as Cheesmur Building Contractors since the 1960s. Cheesmur has continued to improve and develop its team and, as a consequence, continues to enhance its reputation in the marketplace.
Following a management buy-out in January 2009, the revitalised business is committed to its’ ethos of Traditional Values in a Changing World, particularly relevant in the current climate as we continue to deliver Business as Usual in the New Normal.
We undertake projects from across a wide range of sectors, including residential and social housing, education, health, heritage, commercial, industrial and leisure. As well as a number of term planned, reactive maintenance contracts, with a significant proportion of our turnover negotiated or secured on an open book basis. Totally committed to the ethos of partnering and collaborative working, we continue to work closely with our clients and their professional teams to ensure that quality projects are achieved to programme and budget.
Operating throughout Sussex and the South East, we employ over 55 full-time staff, including management and administrative support from our Cobbe Barns offices, near Lewes. In addition to our own trained and skilled craftspeople, we have a valuable resource in our established and experienced supply chain of sub-contractors and suppliers. We are firmly committed to the development and training of our own highly motivated staff and apprentices, who are encouraged to excel in their chosen trade and are fully supported by our experienced and qualified personnel.
We are proud to have been founding members of the TrAC (Training and Apprenticeships in Construction) Shared Apprenticeship Scheme and continue to support the ESCC Careers Hub Construction Skills Task Group whilst also providing Enterprise Adviser support to local schools.
