A design and build project at River Beach Primary School in Littlehampton. The work carried out included placing a new extension onto the existing school building to create a new teaching space. As well as simultaneously refurbishing the Food Technology department and the Sports Department.
Due to the new teaching space being added onto an existing building, we had to be careful to cause the least amount of disruption possible. With this in mind, our team worked extremely hard to make sure that the project ran as smoothly as possible from start to finish. Even while the school remained fully open and operational.
We pride ourselves on the level of communication that we have with all of our clients. Making sure that they understand what’s happening and when, but also so we can understand them too. So progress meetings were integral to both parties working together. This included speaking with the school and other stakeholders to find out about the important dates that it had to make sure that any excessive noise on those days was avoided.
This ensured that as much of the noisy work as possible was carried out once the school had closed for the day. The result was that the headteacher, Dave Ayers, said: “I can honestly say that we often weren’t aware that they were there!” Which is, of course, always the goal.
All of the staff working on-site had a valid DBS check, plus health and safety, as with all projects, was carefully considered. Making sure that none of the school children, or indeed staff, were at any risk throughout the construction works. It was for this reason that the connection of the new building with the existing one was carried out over the half term.
The end result was a fantastic new facility for the school with the headteacher, Dave Ayres, being particularly pleased with both the result and how Cheesmur operated throughout. Dave said, “Cheesmur were a delight to work with. From start to finish, their aim was to complete the works with as little disruption as possible...As a head teacher, I have experienced working alongside many contractors on building projects and Cheesmur were without a doubt, my best experience so far.”
We’d love to hear from you and would be pleased to discuss your project.
