  • Terry Nitman MCIOB


    Terry is a chartered builder and has worked in the construction industry since 1980, having originally trained with James Longley & Co of Crawley. He has developed and progressed his career locally in a variety of progressively senior production roles and has extensive experience in all types of construction and procurement methods. Joining Cheesmur from his previous role as area director for a UK plc, he has been jointly responsible for the strategic development and day to day running of the business since he and Steve took on the business. In addition Terry heads the Cheesmur production delivery team and also sits on the advisory board of the Sussex Education Business Partnership to help promote better opportunities for young people to progress their careers.

  • Steve Hayman MCIOB, MRICS


    Steve is a chartered builder and chartered surveyor and is also a member of the RICS Sussex Branch Committee. He has extensive experience in high quality construction both in Britain and overseas including royal palaces, 5 star hotels and embassies abroad. In addition he has completed many high profile contracts locally, including the Royal Pavilion, Hilton Metropole Hotel and a number of executive apartment blocks. Since he and Terry took over the business Steve has also led on many successful partnering and framework projects using design and build, two stage tender and traditional forms of procurement. In addition Steve was the founding Chairman of TrAC, a not for profit social enterprise Shared Apprenticeship Scheme and he continues to be closely involved in promoting local apprenticeships and training.

  • Jason Wickenden Bsc (Hons), MCIOB

    Operations Director

    Jason is a Chartered Builder, having been educated to honours degree level in the discipline of building engineering and management. With over 20 years’ experience in the construction industry, rising from site engineer, through site manager to his  current role as Senior Contracts Manager, his experience has been diverse. He has successfully completed projects in the education and health sectors, private and social housing developments, coastal defence works and commercial factory units, all constructed with a variety of building techniques including modern methods of construction. Projects have ranged in value from several hundred thousand pounds to in excess of £5m, working alongside the project surveyors and site managers to ensure projects are delivered to the clients exacting standards, programme and budgets. In recognition of his commitment and contribution to the continued success of the business, Jason was appointed to the board as Operations Director in January 2017.

  • James Field ACCA BA (Hons) FMAAT AATQB

    Finance Director

    James is a Chartered Certified Accountant and brings a wealth of experience in a variety of disciplines. Having studied at Portsmouth, he spent 16 years in various retail and leisure management positions, the highlight of which was the running of a successful franchise for a multi-national oil company. In 2006 James returned to his early training and spent 2 years rediscovering his talents as an accounts assistant for a large pharmaceutical company before joining Cheesmur in 2008. Following his studies whilst at Cheesmur James became a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accounts (ACCA) in 2015 and won PQ Magazine's Part Qualified Accountant of the Year Award in 2014. In recognition of his contribution to the continued success of the business James was appointed to the board as Finance Director in January 2017.

  • Steve King

    Construction Director

    Steve joined the company initially as a Site Manager, until achieving a well-earned promotion in 2010 to his current role of Contracts Manager. He has completed projects ranging from an award winning Listed Building refurbishment, affordable housing schemes to new build educational facilities and industrial work units. With project values ranging from £100k to £2.5m, Steve’s experience covers numerous building techniques, including traditional masonry, concrete frame, steel portal systems and the latest techniques in timber frame construction. He has brought his experience and knowledge to the successful completion of schemes for Clients in both the Private and Public sectors. He has ensured that the building performance requirements of customers are met to achieve compliance for Code for Sustainable Homes Certification, Lifetime Homes and provision of renewable energies & Low/ Zero Carbon technologies. These have included the installation of systems such as ground and air source heat pumps, grey water systems and photovoltaic and solar arrays, both as retro fit and to new-build installations.

  • David Bennett MCIOB

    Senior Estimator

    David has been working in the industry for over 30 years for local, regional and national contractors and developers. He is a fully experienced estimator and surveyor, having worked on a wide range of projects incorporating both traditional and Design & Construct Contracts. At Cheesmur, he continues to work closely with our clients and their design and procurement teams to achieve competitive tenders, and to offer effective value engineering and design solutions.

  • Isabel Card

    Facilities Administrator and Apprenticeship Coordinator

    Isabel previously worked for a specialist company providing travel solutions for sports teams, the media and associated personnel to get them to their sporting events around the globe. Over ten years Isie had the chance to travel to many glamorous places and having developed her experience and expertise in a high pressure customer service role she has adapted well to her new role and is a key member of the Cheesmur facilities team.

  • Russell Card


    Russell joined Cheesmur with over 15 years experience in retail management and is now putting this wealth of knowledge to good use as part of the Cheesmur buying team. Having previously worked for large corporations such as B&Q and Bathstore, he is an award winning bathroom designer and was one of the premier members of Bathstore’s sales team nationally. With the support of the experienced Cheesmur Team, Russell will be developing his construction buying skills as he continues to enhance the service delivered by our in-house buying team.

  • Stuart Cooper

    Contracts Manager (Build)

    Stuart joined the Cheesmur team in 2017 bringing 13 years experience in the construction industry, having started his career as an apprentice bricklayer. On completing his apprenticeship Stuart stepped up to manage various minor works contracts as a Working Foreman and over the following years progressed to Site Management and then Contracts Management. His experience encompasses all aspects of Health and Safety, Surveying, Programming and Project Management over multiple contracts and as a result he has successfully delivered many projects, ranging from £10K to £500k in value. With programmes ranging from 3 to 36 weeks Stuart has delivered these projects on time and within budget for a varied portfolio of Clients who include private individuals, Housing Associations, Schools, and Health Authorities.  

  • Lisa Downey


    Lisa joined Cheesmur as the office administrator and receptionist, providing administrative support across the business. As a result of her hard work and commitment, she was promoted to the buying department working closely with Peter to benefit from his experience and expertise. Having previously worked for Parker Pen in Newhaven for over 20 years, Lisa brings her loyalty, good humour and outgoing personality to Cheesmur.

  • Simon Edlin BSc (Hons)

    Senior Quantity Surveyor

    Simon joined Cheesmur as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, having spent 20 years in the construction industry after graduating with a BSc (Hons) from UWE Bristol. Over that time he has worked for both main and Sub-contractors in both hands-on and Managing Surveyor capacities on projects ranging in value from £50,000 up to £16m. He has a wealth of experience across a range of sectors including Social and Private Housing, Health, Education, Local Authority and Prisons, using various forms of JCT and bespoke Contracts

  • Jen Gibbons

    Accounts Assistant

    Having studied to degree level Jen initially started working in retail before changing direction and working in invoice finance and credit control. During her time in this role she began to take a keen interest in business and accounting and as a result, in 2103 she joined a small construction company as as an Accounts Assistant. During her 5 years in this role she gaining a good all round experience in various aspects of company accounts. Jen joined Cheesmur in August 2018 as an Accounts Assistant to support the existing accounts team and is looking to use her invaluable construction accounting experience in her new role as well as developing her accounting skills further still. In addition Jen is studying AAT and looking to complete her qualification in the not too distant future.
  • Kirsty Green

    Facilities Manager

    Kirsty is a qualified surveyor and has been in the industry for over 25 yrs. Her primary role is as Facilities Manager looking after the term maintenance agreements with a number of our key customers including East Sussex County Council and Sussex Housing & Care, also leading the successful delivery of the Bespoke Minor Adaptations programme for ESCC Adult Care Services.

  • Daniel Hayman BSc (Hons)

    Estimating Assistant

    Daniel has been working on construction sites during his summer breaks since the age of 16 and also in our contracts and estimating departments over the last few years. Now working as a full time trainee estimator he is currently studying for his HNC in Construction and has recently successfully completed his Causeway Estimating software training.

  • Amy Ives

    Accounts Assistant

    Amy joined the Cheesmur accounts department as an Accounts Assistant in 2018. Since leaving school, she has had jobs in retail and more recently working in the finance department at the largest further education college in East Sussex. Amy has completed her Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting and is currently studying towards her Level 4 AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting. When not working or studying, Amy is a singer and guitarist, and often performs at local venues
  • Chris Shoult

    Contracts Manager (Build)

    Chris has recently joined the team and has been working in the construction industry for the past 14 years starting as an apprentice carpenter from leaving school winning numerous national awards for his dedication and hard work, the pinnacle of these being a City & Guilds medal for excellence presented to him at Buckingham palace by the Duke of Edinburgh. Chris has developed within the construction industry moving from site carpenter to site manager and onto contracts management successfully running numerous projects on time and within budget up to the value of 600k.

  • Teresa Skinner

    Senior Quantity Surveyor

    Teresa started her journey in construction working for a contractor as a receptionist and was offered the opportunity to progress to assistant quantity surveyor following a 3 year apprenticeship.  Teresa has been in the industry almost twenty years, bringing with her a wealth of experience across a range of sectors including private/social housing, Health and leisure, Education, Ecclesiastical , Commercial and Listed Buildings, with contract values up to £8 million. Teresa joined Cheesmur following a 4 year period working for a local property developer.
  • Jeremy Snelling BSc (Hons)

    Senior Contracts Manager

    Jeremy graduated in 1996 with a degree in Building Engineering and Management. Starting as a site engineer he progressed through Site Management and Project management to his current position as Contracts Manager. His has a wide range of experience which includes many aspects of Building and Civil Engineering such as piling, steel, concrete and timber frames, basements as well as grain stores, roads, traditional oak construction, schools, high spec housing, community buildings and refurbishment. Projects have ranged in value from £100k to in excess of £8m, working alongside the project surveyors, site managers and direct and subcontracted tradespeople to ensure that projects are safely delivered to a high standard and within budget and programme.

  • Ryan Spirovski

    Post-Contract Administrator

    Having had several years experience working as a senior administrator in an office environment dealing directly with high profile clients, shareholders and overseeing specialised projects Ryan now applies these skills to his role in the production and provision of Operation and Maintenance Manuals for Cheesmur projects. In his spare time Ryan coaches and manages an under 10s team at Worthing Town Youth FC.

  • Clive Stoneman

    Estimator/Surveyor (Build)

    Clive joins Cheesmur team as an Estimator/Surveyor from the public sector where he managed a complete repair service to over 3,500 customers within a social housing environment.  The role included the day to day management of various types of contracts up to a value of £4m per year including reactive repairs, property refurbishments, adaptations and mechanical & electrical works.  Clive brings a range of service delivery skills to the Cheesmur team in areas such as project management, contract management and performance management and will assist the Facilities Team with various projects including the successful delivery of the Bespoke Minor Adaptations programme for ESCC Adult Social Care Services.

  • Steve Teale Bsc (Hons)

    Senior Contracts Manager

    Steve joined the company as a Senior Contracts Manager in 2017. He has a wealth of experience gained from 40 years working within the construction industry. He started his construction career within a trade background before progressing to subcontracting for a number of years. Steve was then employed in site management and project management for both main contractors and house builders / developers for a decade. He has been heading up projects as a Contracts Manager for main contractors since 1997. He has undertaken projects within the school & higher education, health, blue light services, civil service, social and private housing, leisure, commercial and industrial sectors. He has managed projects ranging from £250k up to £14m, contracts have included traditional single stage tendering , two stage tenders, negotiated contracts, cost plus and PPC 2000 Partnering. His experience covers numerous construction methods including traditional masonry, timber frame & glulam, steel frame & Metsec, concrete frame and modern methods of construction. Steve is passionate about providing first class customer service and delivering high quality projects on time. He is also focused  on minimizing the impact of construction projects on neighbouring properties and the public generally, receiving numerous Considerate Constructors Scheme bronze and silver awards

  • Zak Wiltshire


    Zak joined the Cheesmur’s estimating department in 2018 with 11 years of local estimating experience across a range of sectors including social and private housing, health, education and local authority. In his private time, he enjoys spending time with his friends and family.
