This design & build project, completed on behalf of West Sussex County Council, was for the construction of a single storey classroom block of traditional construction. The completed works provided the school with 2 new classrooms, a group / music room & new toilet facilities. The build, adjoining the existing school building, was undertaken whilst ensuring that the existing school facilities were unaffected during the construction works, with the installation of a temporary roadway into the school playfield fully segregating the construction works from the normal running of a school day.
Manor Green Primary School, a Special Educational Needs School, also required the installation of specialist equipment including a ceiling mounted hoist and interactive IT equipment. In addition to the new classroom building, our works included providing external wheelchair accessible and fully inclusive learning space including both soft and hard landscaping.
The project, which was delivered within budget, started in April 2020 and was completed in readiness for the new academic year in September, all while incorporating prevailing guidance on the Covid 19 pandemic and whilst material and labour was in short supply. This was a real success with the whole project team working together to deliver a successful project for a deserving client and end user during a difficult period, as recognised by the client representative - “yet another impressive project completed by Cheesmur, thank you to the whole site team”.
